Dr. Hegler Tissot is a senior research fellow in Health Informatics.
He received his Ph.D. degree in computer science from the Universidade
Federal do ParanĂ¡ in 2016, as a member of the C3SL Labs, and was
a postdoctoral researcher at Macquarie University, in 2017. He mostly works
with knowledge engineering, and his main research interest is about
improving public health services by applying natural language processing to
extract structured information from electronic health records and
using machine learning to design classifiers, prediction models and risk assessment
applications within the clinical domain.

With over 30 years of experience in computer science, he worked in designing large transactional
and analytical database systems in many industry sectors. He also has large experience in data mining
and data visualization techniques, both applied in several projects, mostly within the Telecom
and Healthcare industry sectors for more than 15 years.

His main interests in Data Science range from Knowledge Representation and Reasoning, Machine Learning,
Natural Language Processing (NLP), Ontologies,
Pattern Recognition, and Information Extraction.
His research is mostly focused on applying those technologies to unlock clinical evidence from patient data and
improve healthcare related services within the clinical domain, targeting the design and development of clinical predictive
and risk assessment models.
